With the theme of ‘Look, Listen, Learn, Lead’, MPA & British Precast’s first virtual Health & Safety Leadership Conference took place on Wednesday 11 November, hosted by BBC Radio Presenter Sybil Ruscoe. The event launched MPA’s new ‘Vision Zero’, together with the associated values, strategies, targets and focussed on the leadership and behavioural change required to deliver them, drawing on the insights of leaders from within the industry and the workforce. Contributors also talked about what they had learnt, managing, and adapting to a Covid-19 environment.

Due to this year’s challenging circumstances the decision was taken to move the annual PRECAST event online as a full weeklong programme of 10 webinars. This ambitious event should certainly be seen as a success with close to 500 hundred people being involved in the webinar programme across the week.

British Precast, with the assistance of our Sustainability and Environmental Committee (SEC) has drafted a Water Policy which sets out a framework for more of our members to implement water management policies of their own. The policy focusses on Monitoring, Minimising and Prioritising the use of different water sources and protection of the environment through good water stewardship.

British Precast welcomes the UK concrete industry’s decision to develop and adopt a new carbon roadmap to deliver a ‘net negative’ industry by 2050. The announcement means the concrete industry is not only committing to meet the UK target of ‘Net Zero’ by 2050 but is also committing to removing more carbon from the atmosphere than the industry emits each year.

The Mineral Products Association has today published a policy paper calling for reform of the mineral planning system to ensure future supply to support housing and infrastructure construction, manufacturing and other key strategic sectors of the economy.
