The Concrete Centre is representing the sector at Futurebuild 2022. The Concrete Futures feature charts the concrete industry's journey to decarbonise and showcases a range of innovations and real-life samples of saving carbon now.

Futurebuild brings together the brightest minds, the disruptive thinkers and most exciting innovators to transform the industry. Come and ask queries of our technical experts, help yourself to best-practice guidance. Visit us at on stand F60.

Concrete Futures: saving carbon now is a day of seminars that explores key themes around carbon and how efficient decisions and design can make savings now and into the future. The three sessions are: low carbon concrete; efficient design and construction; and roadmap in action.

Concrete Futures at Futurebuild 2022: Low Carbon Concrete

2nd March 2022, South Gallery Rooms 7 & 8, 10:00-12:00
This session considers the development, availability, and use of lower carbon concretes in the UK. It will provide an overview of evolving standards, sources of environmental product data and recent design and specification guidance. More Info

Concrete Futures at Futurebuild 2022: Efficient Design and Construction

2nd March 2022, South Gallery Rooms 7 & 8, 12:00-13:30
This session will go through some of the recent studies of embodied carbon of different structural systems that show that the choice of grid, loading and structural system can make a difference in the embodied carbon of up to 50% without changing the concrete mix. More Info

Concrete Futures at Futurebuild 2022: Roadmap in Action

2nd March 2022, South Gallery Rooms 7 & 8, 13:30-15:00
In this session we introduce the technical and behavioural enablers/levers that feature in the UK, European and Global sector decarbonisation roadmaps. Presentations will share exciting updates on the trials and potential of net zero fuels, and the global research and investment in carbon capture.  More Info

The Concrete Centre and MPA Precast are hosting sessions within Futurebuild's Resourceful Materials and Offsite programmes. Both of the sessions are on Thursday 3rd March, and more details are below.

Innovation in Precast Concrete

3rd March 2022, 12:15-13:00, Keynote Stage 1
This session explores innovation in the precast concrete sector with a focus on reducing embodied carbon. A case study of the 2021 Stirling Prize winning, Town House, Kingston will be presented by a member of the project team. More Info

Optimising the Use of Concrete

3rd March 2022, 14:15-15:00, Keynote Stage 2
A core principle of a circular economy is to do more with less. This session explores the opportunities to create more efficient structural solutions using concrete, and design strategies for optimising and extending its long service life including design for adaptability. More Info
